There is always something very special about a wedding proposal. When it’s a romantic and beautiful Grand Turk wedding proposal, the bar is raised up a knot.
On board of Carnival Cruise, Derrick and Holly sailed to Grand Turk, an enchanted island outpost dotted with old windmills, grassy trails and picture-perfect beaches. We planned a “photo tour” and explored the island for 2 hours prior popping the big question. I can still feel the butterflies going crazy inside Derrick’s stomach and Holly’s confused feelings – I bet the wait was torture! But delaying the dreamed moment erased Holly’ secret hope it might be “the day he asks”… when it happened, it was magical.
To better tell the couple’s love story, I asked Derrick’s help. Those are his words, his declaration of love, the feelings that give him a reason to smile every day…
Holly and I met when we were in High School through a mutual friend. It was pretty much love at first sight. I had a crush on her for the better part of a year before we finally started dating in August of 2012. I knew I wanted to marry her from the start. Being that we had been dating for some time, getting married was something we obviously talked about after graduating high school and being together for a few years. I started thinking about proposing about a year and a half ago. I asked Holly to be my girlfriend at a racetrack at one of my racing events. Obviously not the most romantic… so I knew I wanted to really knock it out of the park with the proposal. I knew she had been wanting to go on a cruise for a long time so I planned this cruise with all of the family and the rest just fell into place. The proposal could not have gone more perfect.
Holly has always supported me with whatever I do. Even the racing!! She even has the guts to get in the car with me and ride in the passenger seat at over 150mph!
I think what makes our relationship so strong is because of when we started dating. We have literally been together to watch each other go through great things like graduation, starting college, getting our first big jobs, etc. It’s almost like we have watched each other grow up. Although that is awesome, the real reason I love her is because she has been making me into a better person since the day I met her. I would not be who I am today if not for her. I can honestly say she brings out the best in me. She is my partner in crime, my better half, my everything. God truly has blessed me with this angel. I cannot wait to see what the future holds.

To make it privagte and unexpected I left the couple on the beach with a silly excuse. Hiding behind a tree, I captured this candid moments.
Even when Derrick pointed out my hiding spot, Holly could not see me. Perfect!
