What’s better than a destination beach wedding? A Turks and Caicos Wedding with a traditional, culture infused twist.

Pang wrote “I’m Hmong, I want to capture some pictures on my traditional garb and highlight my culture in our wedding pictures. My fiance, Irish /French Canadian, is open to this idea as well. We would want someone special who can appreciate this aspect and I believe you are the right photographer to help capture us“.

I was intrigued and hooked.

The Hmong are members of an ethnic group that have no country of their own. For thousands of years they reside in the mountains of China and Southeast Asia.

The garb is colorful and precious, composed of many layers and a fantastic silver necklace. Putting the outfit on is usually a very long process but Pang was fast and focused. She was running a little late and we could not loose the natural daylight needed to capture beautiful photographs – I wonder who put this idea in her mind… 😉

Ready, in all her glory.

Pang was born in Thailand and immigrated to the US with her parents when she was a baby. The traditional garb is a gift from her mother – so special!

Pang and Chris wanted to incorporate the natural landscapes and botanical scenery that Turks and Caicos has to offer. They chose to do a first look in the garden area of Sea la Vie in Long Bay, their residence for the week.

Provo is certainly not known for the its lush vegetation and tropical forest. I did my best to recreate the wild feeling by stepping the wild bushes.

A quick change and… it’s time to get married. The ceremony, celebrated by Chris’ sister, took place in the pristine and very windy Long Bay beach.

The wind direction and the informality of the event, inspired me to create this not-so-traditional group photo – I love it!
